Dr. Belinda Treviño Schouten is a Full Professor at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas where she serves as the Coordinator of Bilingual and ESL Education. Dr.Schouten earned a Ph.D. in Culture, Literacy, and Language from the University of Texas at San Antonio and has been training preservice and inservice teachers since 2005. She has coordinated several federal bilingual teacher training grants at the University level and a 21st Century Community Learning Grant at the school district level. Dr. Schouten is the Co-Chair of the National Bilingual Education Student Organization (BESO), which is the largest bilingual education student organization in the nation and has been involved with BESO since 1995. She serves as the Advisor for the OLLU BESO and works with various affiliates of the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE), including the Texas Association of Bilingual Education (TABE) and the San Antonio Area Association of Bilingual Education (SAAABE). She is a fierce advocate for the rights of all language learners and their families and currently serves on the Executive Board of NABE.
