A native of Mexico, Dr. Apolonio Trejo dedicated over twenty years of service as a school teacher in some of the most affluent as well as some of the most underserved school districts in Texas. His life experiences inspired his research interests which focuses on the underrepresentation of Hispanic English learners in gifted and talented education. Additional areas of interest lie within the academic injustice facing the identification of gifted emergent bilinguals, the challenges serving gifted children of color, the ambiguity surrounding twice exceptional students and the neglect and isolation of queer gifted students. Dr. Trejo holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and a Master of Arts in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Ph.D. in School Improvement from Texas State University. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Bilingual Education at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
